Business Studies Department (MBS & BBS) Report

FROM HoD’S DESK:

Dear scholars,

I am highly privileged to welcome all the promising scholars from every corner of our country to St. Xavier’s College, a top ranked institution for academic achievements from +2 through university programs. As per the need for the academic achievements, the college started BBS and MBS programs. The BBS program was started from 2002 A.D. and MBS from 2005A.D. SXC has become the first choice of the young scholars seeking to explore their career goals with higher achievements. SXC offers a very conducive learning environment for scholarly minds to be prepared for career oriented higher education.

Self-motivated way of learning is the key goal abreast through the academic history of SXC since its noble commencement and thus, we have ever strived to motivate our scholars with prolific physical, mental and moral growth in building ethically sound and professionally optimistic being.Our senior professors and faculties along with round the clock hardworking staff are always excited for  their best services possible with full affection, friendly behavior and endless hard work dedicated to address the needs and aspirations of each student individually.

In this regard, curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities claim their exceptional significance which SXC has ever prioritized. Since 2002 A.D., the department of management has been the part of St.Xavier’s college with an aim to produce the business graduates according to market demand of the corporate worlds. In this changing scenario, the department is facing different challenges in teaching learning practices. At this time, the department is able to handle these challenges through introducing different types of teaching learning pedagogy like Lectures, multimedia etc.., to enhance students' capabilities. According to the SWOT analysis, the department has found the  methodologies have been useful to address such challenges and going to introduce those activities as per requirements.

 

Our concern is not only about strengthening the academic background but also to create the sense of responsibility and dependability in scholars. The disciplinary rules are taken under high consideration with the motive of creating the sense of responsibility and accountability in the students.

On the other handour department has also been focusing on providing free study environment, wherein both students and lecturers come together to put on their effort in order to enhance the knowledge and skills of the students.

The Department of Management ensures that students are provided with possible input required to upgrade their technical and interpersonal skills through different teaching methodologies. We focus on bringing the students in the best position to bring their dreams into reality.

 

METHODOLOGIES

 

The Management Department uses the methods of instruction which helps to prepare the student for the realities of Nepalese business, industry and government in which he/she has to work. A combination of lecture, group discussions, problem- solving exercises, guest lectures, practical work, and project work will be used as approaches to learning. The campuses are also encouraged to use the case method of instruction whenever required and wherever possible.

  1. 1.)ADMISSION

The admission procedure begins at the end of Asoj after the +2 result published by HSEB. The date can be confirmed accordingly.

  1. A.)ELIGIBILITY

The candidate applying for admission to the BBS programme:

  • Must have successfully completed the 10+2 in business/ commerce or an equivalent course from aHigher Secondary School Board or from Tribhuvan University or from other University/ Board

recognized by T.U or must have studies mathematics or economics as a full paper at the 10+2

  • Must have secured the minimum 50 % marks at the 10+2 or equivalent or at least grade Cin average in A Level programme as prescribed by the Faculty Board or Campus concerned.
    • Must satisfy any other entry requirements or criteria as prescribed by the Faculty Board or the campus.

The candidate applying for admission to the MBS programme:

  • Must have successfully completed the bachelors level from any  University/ Board

recognized by T.U.

  • Must have secured the minimum 50% marks in bachelors level from the Faculty Board or campus concerned.
    • Must satisfy any other entry requirements or criteria as prescribed by the Faculty Board or the campus.
  1. B.)PROCESS:

Written Examination, Interview and final admission.
Attendance, Evaluation and Grading System

The final evaluation of students is done through the annual examination conducted by the office of the Controllerof Examinations, Tribhuvan University. However for qualifying to appear in the annual examinations, students must meet the following requirements:

a) The student must have a minimum of 80 percent attendance of the classes actually held.

b) No student will be allowed to appear in the second year final examinations without first appearing in the first year final examinations.

The grading system in the annual examinations is as follows:

Graduation Requirements

The BBS programme extends over four academic years and the BBS degree is awarded on its successful

completion. All candidates for BBS degree must fulfill the following requirements:

1. The successful completion of 19 courses of 1950 marks and submit a final project report of 50 marks as

prescribed with passing grades in all the courses.

2. The passing scores obtained in all theory and practical components of the courses separately.

3. Completion of courses for the fulfillment of BBS programme must occur within the time limit as prescribe by Tribhuvan University.

Guest Lecture:
The department has a plan to introduce different types of guest lecture with the help of area specialists. The department will request them to share their experience in demanding areas.


Seminar:
The department believes that the seminar is the way of understanding new knowledge. That is why; it has planned to conduct a seminar in current issue of the business. The department will motivate to the senior students for making successful the event through participation.

Talk programme:
In academic world, the talk programme is the current way of gaining knowledge through experience. The department will manage a talk programme which will help to motivate students in specific area with the help of experience of successful people.

Field Visit:
The department will also make a programme of field visit. The department believes that the field visit is the best way of gaining practical knowledge through watching and experiencing.

Report Writing and Presentation:
After field visit, the department will conduct a presentation programme, in which, the students have given responsibilities to prepare the report and present it.

MBS second year will have Industrial Visit, SPSS training, Writing Skill Development Training and Pre-orientation for Thesis writing.

Group Discussion & Presentation:
Students will be asked to participate in group discussion on relevant business management issues so that they can exchange their ideas and views to a solve current business problems faced by the market. Also they are asked to present conclusion drawn from the group discussion so that the leadership, communication and presentation skill will be enhanced among the students.

Extracurricular Activities:
The department has also a plan to conduct different extracurricular activities. The students will get benefits to enhance their leadership style through this activity.

Dr. BishwambherPyakurel, the Professor and Economist for MBS and BBS students topic- Foreign Direct Investment, Mr. UpendraPoudel, the CEO of NMB Bank and The President of Nepal Bankers’ Association Topic- Banking in Productive Sector and Mr. Vidhan Rana, the CEO of Biruwa Ventures Topic- Scope of Entrepreneurship in Nepal.
